AI Patients
AI-powered mannequins are revolutionizing the training of healthcare students at Darlington College.
Innovative Training Tools: The college has introduced AI-enabled mannequins to help health and social care students develop their skills. These advanced mannequins can communicate, recognize, and respond to speech, providing realistic reactions to various healthcare scenarios.
Realistic Practice Environments: In June, the mannequins will be part of the college's new healthcare training facility. This facility includes a mock hospital ward, GP surgery, and nursing home, designed to give students a realistic understanding of workplace settings.
Comprehensive Learning Opportunities: Students will use the mannequins to practice essential procedures like taking blood pressure, administering injections, and placing catheters. The AI patients, available in different ages and sizes, aim to enhance critical thinking and decision-making skills.
By incorporating these advanced tools, Darlington College is preparing its students more effectively for real-world healthcare challenges.

🚨 AI in ER Admissions
AI in hospitals? Yep, that's a thing now. Researchers at Mount Sinai hospitals decided to see if OpenAI's GPT-4 could help doctors decide which emergency room patients should be admitted. They analyzed over 864,000 ER visits and found that the AI had an 83% accuracy rate in predicting hospital admissions. Not too shabby for a computer program, right?
Out of all those visits, about 18% ended up with hospital admissions, which is roughly 159,857 cases. The AI didn't nail it every time, but it was pretty close.
Girish Nadkarni, the study's senior author, mentioned that hitting 100% accuracy is tough due to the randomness of some factors. Still, this tech could make a huge difference in logistical and administrative tasks, like figuring out how many beds are needed or which patients can be safely discharged.
