🗞 News of the day

🤖 Google Political Ads Disclosures

Google is enhancing transparency in political ads by requiring disclosures for altered content.

  • Transparency in Political Ads: Google now requires advertisers to indicate if election ads contain synthetic or digitally altered content. This feature lets advertisers select a checkbox in campaign settings, generating automatic in-ad disclosures for specific formats across devices like mobile feeds and YouTube Shorts.

  • Simplified Disclosure Process: The automatic disclosure feature simplifies the process for advertisers, who previously had to manually include clear disclosures on altered ads. This update aims to maintain transparency, particularly with the approaching US presidential election.

  • Regulatory Context: The move comes amid growing concerns over the use of AI in political ads, leading to proposed regulations by the Senate Rules Committee and FCC. Google's efforts align with these regulatory trends, enhancing accountability in political advertising.

🚨 Mind-reading AI

AI Can Now Read Your Mind and Recreate What You See

So, imagine a world where AI can peek into your brain and figure out what you're looking at. Sounds like fiction, right? But scientists have cracked it!

The cool part is how they pulled it off. Researchers used fancy tech like functional MRI scanners to see how brain cells react when people look at photos. They also implanted tiny electrodes in a monkey's brain, which sounds a bit sci-fi but stay with me.

These electrodes recorded brain activity while the monkey looked at AI-generated images. The AI learned from all this data to figure out which parts of the brain to focus on, making its reconstructions freakishly accurate. Even when the AI used noisy MRI data, it still managed to get a pretty good idea of what the person was looking at.

This tech could help make better brain implants for people who've lost their vision. Imagine having an implant that can stimulate the part of your brain responsible for seeing objects, essentially giving you back some of your sight.

The researchers dream of creating implants that can generate rich visual experiences by stimulating high-level parts of the vision system.
