🚨 First AI Law

The European Union member states approved the first-ever comprehensive Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act. The decision, resulting from negotiations between the European Council, European Parliament, and European Commission, is a landmark resolution that places the EU ahead of its global competitors in AI regulation.

Earlier objections from France were resolved through additional conditions, paving the way for the final agreement.

While the United States has been somewhat sluggish in regulating AI, choosing to let the tech sector steer developments, and China has only put forward rules for generative AI without a comprehensive law, the EU stands out with its all-encompassing AI Act.

🤖 Microsoft OpenAI Humanoids

Microsoft and OpenAI are reportedly discussing investing $500 million in Figure AI, a startup specializing in humanoid robotics. Figure AI, aiming to deploy autonomous humanoid workers globally, could see its valuation rocket to $1.9 billion with this funding, making it potentially the first humanoid robotics unicorn. This isn't OpenAI's first rodeo in this field, they've previously backed another humanoid robot startup, 1X Technologies.

The Founder and CEO of Figure AI, Brett Adcock, has assembled a team of top-tier roboticists from industry giants like Tesla and Boston Dynamics. Figure AI recently partnered with BMW to test its humanoid robots in the automaker's South Carolina factory.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, hinted at the possibility of shipping units of Tesla's humanoid robot, Optimus, next year. As the race to develop advanced humanoid robots intensifies, Agility Robotics and Apptronik, US-based rivals, are already testing their robots in Amazon warehouses. So, it seems the only thing multiplying faster than these robots are the companies making them!
