🚨 AI Gun Detectors

Evolv Technologies, the supplier of AI gun detectors, is set to launch a pilot program in New York City's subway system to test its technology for detecting concealed weapons at turnstiles.

This comes despite the company currently being under investigation by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over allegations of product misrepresentation. Investors have also filed a class-action lawsuit against Evolv.

The firm's scanners, which use AI and electromagnetic fields, have drawn criticism for their alleged low accuracy, including flagging harmless items and failing to detect certain weapons.

Nevertheless, NYC's subway system is proceeding with the partnership, with the pilot program expected to commence in 90 days, as required by the POST Act.

These scanners have already been deployed at various locations within the city and have also been utilized in schools as a measure against campus shootings. While violent crime rates on the subway are relatively low, enhancing the public's perception of safety remains a priority for the city.

🤖 $100 Billion Supercomputer

Microsoft and OpenAI are joining forces to construct a $100 billion supercomputer. The ambitious project, comprising five phases with the final phase named 'Stargate', will utilize millions of specialized server chips to achieve unmatched computing power.

With a tentative launch date set for 2028, the supercomputer is designed to outstrip current computing capacities by a substantial margin.

Acquiring the essential server chips is a significant challenge, given the high market demand that Nvidia currently dominates. However, OpenAI aims to navigate this hurdle by manufacturing its own chips.

Microsoft is not only expected to provide substantial funding for the Stargate project, having already committed over $13 billion to OpenAI, but also to further enhance GPU performance and manage overheating issues.
