🤖 Meta’s 3D AI

Meta's innovative 3D Gen model is set to transform text into 3D images

  • 3D Gen Model Capabilities: Meta's 3D Gen model can convert text prompts into high-quality 3D images with detailed textures and skins. The system supports physically-based rendering and generates 3D assets in under a minute, making it a powerful tool for rapid content creation. The model's high-resolution textures and material maps enhance visual fidelity and quality.

  • Efficiency and Comparisons: The average time to create a 3D model using Meta's system is around 30 seconds, with an additional 20 seconds for refining textures through text prompts. The model's ability to represent 3D objects in various spaces, combined with a two-stage process, makes it preferred by annotators 68% of the time over industry standards. This efficiency and quality comparison highlights the model's advanced capabilities.

  • Broader Implications: The advancements in Meta's 3D Gen model could significantly impact game development, VR applications, and other creative fields. By lowering the barriers to creating and editing 3D content, this technology has the potential to democratize access to high-quality 3D modeling tools.

Although not yet publicly available, the system shows promising potential for transforming workflows across different industries.

🚨 Figma Ripping off Apple’s Weather App

Figma Pauses AI Tool After Copying Apple's Weather App

Figma's CEO, Dylan Field, hit the brakes on the company's flashy new AI design tool, Make Design. Why? Because it looked like it was shamelessly ripping off Apple's Weather app.

The tool, which turns text prompts into slick UI layouts, got busted by designer Andy Allen, who noticed the eerie similarities. Field, trying to save face, said the AI wasn't heavily trained on existing apps, but he did admit they kinda dropped the ball on quality assurance.

Dylan Field took to Twitter after Allen's discovery, promising to disable the AI feature until they give it a proper QA check. He confessed that the underlying issues were with the design systems being used. This little fiasco unfolded just after Make Design was shown off at Figma's big Config conference. And let's be real, nobody wants their brand-new AI tool to be called out for plagiarism right after its debut.

Interestingly, this whole drama has designers worried about AI taking over their jobs. But Field cleared the air, explaining that Make Design uses basic language models and isn't all that creative on its own.

So, while the AI tool is chilling in the penalty box, Figma's team will be working on making sure it doesn't come back with any more "inspired" designs.
