Iranian hackers, identified as the Cotton Sandstorm group, recently caused chaos in the UAE by disrupting TV streaming services with deepfake news. This AI-generated news broadcast, dubbed “For Humanity,” featured a fake news anchor presenting unverified images of Palestinians in Gaza.

The impact of this disruption was felt globally, with Microsoft analysts noting interruptions in countries like the UAE, UK, and Canada. Channels such as the BBC in the UK were also affected, with the deepfake news including graphic footage and casualty updates from Gaza.
