🤯 Insight: AI’s Growth In The UK So Far
The UK's AI market is rapidly growing, with a worth of over £16.9 billion, and is expected to reach £803.7 billion by 2035. The number of AI companies in the UK has increased by 688% in the last decade, and around one in six organizations have adopted AI technologies. Major sectors adopting AI include IT, telecommunications, and legal, while hospitality, health, and retail sectors have lower adoption rates.
London is the primary hub for AI startups in the UK. However, AI adoption may also lead to job displacement, potentially affecting around 2.2 million jobs in the next 20 years. AI language models like Chat GPT are gaining awareness but have faced bans in some universities.
The UK government has invested significantly in AI research and development, ranking third globally in AI readiness. They have allocated over £2.3 billion since 2014, with almost £1 billion committed in the 2023 budget. The UK also plans to invest £900 million in a supercomputer for AI development and aims to build its own AI model called BritGPT.
