⚠️ Jailbroken AI

Cybersecurity firm Kaspersky has reported a surge in the illegal use of large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT for malicious activities. The firm discovered a marketplace for malicious AI prompts and stolen ChatGPT credentials on dark web forums and Telegram channels.

This misuse of AI technology is lowering the entry threshold for criminal activities, including data breaches and potentially, the creation of polymorphic malware.

Interestingly, Kaspersky found that AI guardrails can sometimes be bypassed without sophisticated hacking skills. In an experiment, researchers requested a list of potential website vulnerabilities from ChatGPT, which it initially refused.

However, when the request was repeated verbatim, ChatGPT complied, albeit with a cautionary message. While the information provided can be used for legitimate purposes such as security analysis or pen testing, it can also be exploited for illegal activities.

🤖 Leaked EU AI Act

The leaked EU AI Act is raising eyebrows worldwide due to its extraterritorial applications. The legislation isn't just for EU tech firms, as organizations outside the EU must also follow the rules.

This new act is expected to boost the demand for AI governance programs and professionals, and the EU plans to establish an AI Office to support this new regulation.

These additional requirements pose a significant threat to the future of EU tech. Some worry that an excess of red tape and a risk-averse environment could restrict the potential benefits of AI.

French President Emmanuel Macron has warned that the AI Act could jeopardize European tech companies.

Businesses and organizations have been advised to start planning immediately for the AI Act, as it will become law in the near future.
